2nd January 2012:
Happy New Year to you all and I hope you have all had a restful holiday.
This term is crucial to all our students taking public examinations in the summer. It is a term when final parts of the syllabus are learnt, coursework and controlled assessments are completed and revision begins. I used a quote from Colin Powell at our Celebration Evening in December which I think is useful as we start the new term. He once said "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure." Year 11 students sat their mock examinations in December after which some realised that they need to do some revision before their exams in the summer. If this is what they learnt from failure then it will have been a good lesson learnt. Success, for us measured in exam grades, does not come easily. It does require hard work, learning at school and at home and revision of learning so that it can be applied to exam questions. I am sure that our students will have made many New Year Resolutions around the themes identified by Colin Powell and we will work together to support them in achieving their success.
